Looking for More Day-Trip Options from Tokyo?

Less Crowded

Are you a little tired of the crowds of the megacity? Or perhaps, have you already been to Kamakura and Hakone, and are looking for more unique places that many foreign tourists haven’t found yet? Chiba prefecture is right next to Tokyo, but for many, it’s just the place to take airplanes at Narita Airport. However, only passing by is very wasteful (or “mottainai” in Japanese), because there are many wonderful cities in Chiba. Be one of the first tourists to find them out.

Full of History and Charm

Northen Chiba area is full of history and charm that will certainly entertain you. Narita and Sawara are both very popular tourist sites for Japanese people living around Tokyo. Narita is actually a very famous temple city, where you can find a huge esoteric temple and a long, old approach. Sawara is called “Little Tokyo” because it retains the good old atmosphere of the premodern era. The highlight of the town is a small river running between the old Japanese houses. Don’t forget to take a boat ride navigated by a lovely local.
